From the Dutch artist Julien van Middendorp can be seen in BB Centrum. In his work, the artist uses abstraction and follows in the footsteps of the “De Stijl” and “Cobra” art movements.
The painter will be showing a total of six paintings at the “Living Colour” exhibition, specifically three pairs that are mutually connected by living colours. Julien van Middendorp works with primary colours in meticulously detailed plans in his works. His paintings refer to the Dutch art movement “De Stijl”, which was founded in 1917 by distinguished artists such as Piet Mondriaan, Vilmos Huszár and Theo van Doesburg. Julien’s style is also influenced by the creation of the world-renowned avant-garde movement “Cobra” (1948–1951), which included Karel Appel, Pierre Alechinsky and Asger Jorn, for example.
Inspired by Prague and its streets – Julien van Middendorp exhibits in Prague
Julien focuses on abstraction. He finds the inspiration for his work in the streets, which gives his style an organic dynamic. His paintings are characterised by his work with colours in carefully planned steps. His oil paintings captivate with their composition and bright colours. As a child, he experimented with relatively large drawings and watercolours. He later attended art seminars at the Academy of Arts in Utrecht. The Dutch artist has been living in Prague for the last four years. The local cultural environment is a fresh source of inspiration for him, and that is why his new exhibition has its world premiere in Prague.
